About Installing Bathroom Wall Tile
Installing bathroom wall tiles can give your bathroom a new look. Tiles are easy to care for and work well in a bathroom, since the dampness does not affect them as much as it would paint or wallpaper. Putting wall tile up is something that is relatively easy to do. Once you get the hang of it, the process goes along quickly.
- Prepare the walls. Your job will look a lot better if it done over good walls. Fill holes, remove left over adhesive and be sure walls are smooth. You will also want to clean the walls before starting.
- Use whole tiles where they will be most noticeable and cut tiles where they are least noticeable.
- Find the center part of the wall as your starting point to begin tiling.
- When choosing your tile adhesive, be sure you buy one that is waterproof to be used in the bathroom.
- Use waterproof grout.
- Use plastic spacers between tiles to ensure there is enough space for grout.
- When shopping for tiles, look for ones that are recommended for the bathroom. Certain tiles do better in wet areas than others do.
- Check to see if the bathtub is level. Many are found not to be. If this is the case with yours, you would be better off choosing a tile without a pattern. A patterned tile will be harder to work with if it will have to be cut for an uneven tub.
- When tiling around fixtures, it is best to cut half out of two tiles instead of the entire hole out of one tile.
- Tiles are made for specific uses; some are for floors, while others are for walls. Be sure you choose one made for walls.
- Use proper safety gear when tiling. You will want to wear gloves to avoid cuts and also to avoid your skin being dried out from the grout. Safety glasses should be worn to avoid bits of tile that may fly up when the tile is being cut.
- Work in small sections at a time when applying adhesive.
