Checklist for Bathroom Renovation

There are many different reasons why you may be remodeling your bathroom.  Regardless of what this reason is, you should know ahead of time that this can be both difficult to do and costly.  By being properly organized, you will be able to cut down on your costs and streamline the entire renovation.  Here is where a checklist for your bathroom renovation will come in handy.

There are a few specific things that must be taken into consideration before you start renovating your bathroom.  To begin with, you need to make a budget.  You also need to decide whether you will be using the same location for your bathroom or moving it somewhere else.  If you are using your current location, make note of the square footage and how much square footage you desire so that you know how much “renovation” actually needs to be done.

  • Decide on the floor plan for your bathroom.  Will there be any walls that need moved?  Where will you put all of the furnishings and fixtures?  Do you need to hire a designer or an architect?  Learn about what types of permits you will need to obtain for this work.

  • Will you have a separate shower and tub, a tub with a shower in it or just a tub?  Once you decide upon this, make note of the model and finish for each part.  Decide what type of shower tiles, faucets and door you wish to use and write down their model and finish as well.

  • Decide upon the make, model and color of toilet you wish to install and make note of this as well.

  • Decide upon how many sinks you wish to have and what type of faucet you want to have for each.  Now is also a good time to think about the type of mirror that you wish to use.  Write down the model and color of each, as well as the material that you want your counter top to be made out of.  If you will be using a backsplash, make note of this information as well.

  • Think about whether or not you need to upgrade your electricity or if the outlets are within code and there are enough of them.  Will you be adding any new lighting?  If so, decide upon what type it will be.

  • Look at your floor and decide what type you want to use in your newly remodeled bathroom.  Write this information down, along with whether or not you want to add any under-floor heating.

  • Make note of what types of storage areas you want to have in your bathroom.
