How to Buy Teacher Supplies

Many teachers have to buy items for their classroom out of pocket because there is not enough money in the school budget.  Teachers are spending hundreds each year for the necessary supplies to efficiently run their classroom. There are certain things to consider when buying teacher supplies.

  1. Keep an ongoing list throughout the year. Teachers should keep a list of supplies needed and wish list of high end supplies for the classroom. The list should contain items that will not be supplied by the school district or parents. Teachers can save by referring to the list and picking up items throughout the school year.

  2. Buy items on sale. Many stores stock up on school supplies the beginning of the school year to attract customers. The school supplies are also offered for very low prices, and teachers should stock up and even overbuy supplies when sold at really low prices.

  3. Buy in bulk and split the cost with other teachers. Most teachers will have to buy supplies for their students and would probably be interested in a group buy. You can buy the classroom supplies in bulk and share the cost with a group of teachers. If you are planning to buy in bulk, then you should let the other teachers know at the end of the school year.

  4. Save by shopping at thrift and discount stores. During the summer months, you can spend time exploring garage sales to get hard to find or expensive supplies. There are many things at a garage sale that can be used in a classroom.
