How to Change an Oil Filter

Changing the oil and the oil filter in a car is very important if you want the engine in your car to last long. The oil filter traps contaminants so they do not harm the engine. It is important to change the oil filter each time the oil is changed. This article will instruct you on how to change an oil filter.

How Change An Oil Filter




  1. Locate the engine's oil filter. It is usually located on the read side of the engine halfway up towards the cylinder head.


  2. Get a good grip on the oil filter and turn it counter clockwise. Make sure you use a large drain pain underneath the vehicle. Extract the oil filter. Make sure the rubber ring came off with it.


  3. Take your new filter out of the box. There should be a rubber ring around the top of it. Lubricate the rubber ring with clean engine oil.


  4. Slide the new oil filter taking care not to rub it again any of the dirty surfaces on the engine. Turn it clockwise to get the oil filter back on. Turn the new oil filter half a turn to tighten it.
