Every kitchen should be equipped with an oven thermometer. Cooking food at the proper temperature is very important to ensure it is safe to consume. Not only is undercooked food dangerous to your health, but it is also embarrassing to serve to guests. Learning how to check an oven thermometer is fairly easy to do.

How to Check an Oven Thermometer

  1. Place an oven thermometer in a cool oven.

  2. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.

  3. Once the oven is preheated open the door and read the thermometer. It should read no more or no less than five degrees of the setting.

  4. Put a sheet of plain white paper on the center rack of the oven and close the door and leave the oven on for five minutes.

  5. After the five minutes has lapsed turn the oven off and read the paper's color. The color of the paper will reflect the oven's thermometer reading.
