Creating this environment is fun and easy. Whether you want to decorate your home, office or just a room, here’s how to decorate in a 1950’s theme:

  1. Purchase items that are from the 1950’s. Though these items may be more expensive, they will be authentic. This era is where many appliances and furniture ideas got their start. Having an item from the 1950’s will not only decorate your area, but add a nostalgic piece of history to your environment.

  2. Put pictures, statues or sayings of famous people from the 1950’s. Of course Marilyn Monroe and James Dean are at the top of the list, but don’t forget great people like Humphrey Bogart and Bette Davis.

  3. If you have a kitchen area that you want to decorate in a 1950’s theme, replace your modern refrigerator, toaster or mixer with a vintage model. Choose bright red colors, black and white floors and chrome lined Formica counters. Make sure your kitchen table is brightly colored and chrome lined. This era was all about bright colors and fun.

  4. Add a jukebox to your décor. There are many vintage or replica jukeboxes. Have 1950’s music added to the selections. There’s nothing like Rock Around the Clock to make a person feel like they have time lapsed into the 1950’s.

  5. Other items that would help your area look like the 1950’s era include a silver starburst clock, shag rugs and vinyl records. Anything authentic or replicated from the 1950’s will increase the overall look and feel to the area.
