How to Decorate in Feng Shui
Feng Shui is a decorating method which uses five specific elements to draw positive vibes and energy into a living space. These elements include: wood, fire, metal, earth and water. The general idea is to use decorating features to bring overall harmony into your home.
How to Decorate in Feng Shui:
Step 1: Remove all pieces of furniture that serve no purpose and are not used from your living space.
Step 2: Clean out any clutter in the room. For instance, if you have stacks of bills laying around you should organize them into filing cabinets or boxes. If you have small statuaries or decorations that are cluttering your shelves or tables, you should remove them from the room completely.
Step 3: Remove all furniture that has sharp corners or is squared off. This includes tables, chairs and couches. All furniture used should have a rounded shape. By doing this, you are improving the chi of your living space and removing all negative energies.
Step 4: Face furniture so that you will always see the doorways. Space furniture so that there is plenty of room to move and nothing is cluttered.
Step 5: Lighten up all dark areas of your room with mirrors, plants and/or lights. This increases the positive energy flow.
Step 6: Ensure that the fireplace is the focal point of your room, if you have one. The fireplace does not need a lot of extravagant decorations. In fact, you want it understated yet elegant. Your furniture should surround it so that it is warm and inviting. Remember you still want your furniture placed to where you see the doorways when you are seated.
