Locating an inmate to find the correct address to send them mail or to find out when visits are is not difficult to do. Each state's prison system has ways for you to do this from their website or over the telephone. State and federal prisons will have different websites.

• To look up an inmate in a state correctional institute go to the website of that state's correctional facility to see if they have a button or link that allows you to search for an inmate. If they have one you will have to know at least the first and last name of the inmate. • To find an inmate that is in a federal prison there is one website to search from no matter what state the prison is located in. You will need to know the prisoner's first and last name, or you can also search by the prisoner's inmate number if you know what it is.
