How to Remove Gum From Carpets

Gum can get into the carpet and look messy and terrible. Although it looks sticky and almost impossible to get out, there are household chemicals that can easily remove the gum from the carpets. This article will instruct you on how to remove gum from carpets.

  1. Use a butter knife to pull up the gum on each side. Be gentle so the carpet fibers are not damaged. You can apply ice to the gum until it hardens. Once the gum is hard, you can remove it.


  2. Use scissors to carefully cut out gum that was leftover from Step 1. Avoid cutting the carpet.


  3. Spray the area with WD-40 and allow it to sit for five minutes. Remove the gum with a clean cloth.


  4. Spray the area with a carpet cleaner. Allow the carpet cleaner to sit for five minutes.


  5. Use a damp cloth to dab the area. Use a clean cloth and clear water to dab the carpet cleaner away. Allow the area to completely dry.
