How to Repair Laptop Computer Crashes

Laptop computer crashes can be frustrating and challenging to diagnose. There are different reasons for a computer to crash. The main causes of computer crashes are damage to hard drives, corrupt internal components or corrupt software. Using common sense and being a little tech savvy, you will be able to narrow down the problem.

  1. Power up the laptop and watch what happens when booting up. If the hard drive sounds like its struggling or the hard drive isn’t spinning, then the hard drive could be damaged. You can fix a bad hard drive by running computer diagnostics. The computer diagnostic utility can determine if the hard is damaged. If so, you will have to replace the hard drive.

  2. Reinstall a corrupted operating system. Some causes of a corrupt operating system are a blue screen and error messages. The problem can be repaired by reinstalling the operating system. You don’t want to erase any data during the installation and will need to back up data on the computer.

  3. Replace the corrupted motherboard. If the laptop will boot up only to the BIOS prompt, then you are dealing with a corrupted motherboard. Motherboards are expensive to replace and not really worth the money to replace. You can replace the motherboard by finding a similar laptop and doing a motherboard transplant.

  4. Run virus software to prevent the computer from crashing. Signs of a virus are when a computer crashes when a certain program is launched or when the computer is processing data. The problem can be repaired with a virus-eradicating tool. You can use the tool to clean the hard drive. Another solution is reformatting the hard drive.
