How to Replace a Sink

Replacing a sink can be a easy process. With today’s easy installation instructions many people can replace their own sinks without the help of professionals. Most sinks are now self-rimmed and that takes a lot of stress away from those who prefer to do it themselves. Here is how to install your very own sink.

Items Needed To Replace Sink:

  • New sink

  • Screwdriver

  • Pan

  • Caulk

Replacing The Sink:

  1. Find your sink valves and turn off the water supply to the location. Unscrew the bolts and nuts that attach the water lines to the supply valves. You will then unscrew the drain the tailpiece that attaches to the drain.

  2. Put a pan or pail underneath the trap. This is to catch the water that will flow out.

  3. Remove the clips that hold the sink, use a screwdriver to do this. Once the sink is loose use a knife or putty knife to loosen up the area around the edges at the counter.

  4. Pull the sink out of its location. The faucets and drain should still be attached. Take the faucet and drain kit off the old sink and attach it to the new sink if needed.

  5. Put the new sink where the old sink used to be and re-attach the drain system. Seal all the edges to the countertop using caulk. Make sure you wipe off any excess caulk.
