How to Steam Clean a Throw Rug

Throw rugs are an extension of decorations in our homes. They also insulate cold floor in the winter. Throw rugs also trap dirt, dust, and allergens. The rugs should be steamed cleaned occasionally. This article will instruct you on how to steam clean a throw rug.

How To Steam Clean A Throw Rug




  1. Take the throw rug outside to shake off any debris and dirt. Place the rug on a hard surface.


  2. Tape double stick tape underneath the throw rug along the edges.


  3. Turn the throw rug right side up and walk on the edges to help the tape stick to the floor.


  4. Vacuum the rug thoroughly to remove any remaining dirt and debris.


  5. Spay the rug with a carpet stain remove according to the directions.


  6. Fill the steam cleaner with water and make sure it has a new cleaning pad.


  7. Plug in the steam cleaner and turn it on. Wait until the ready light comes on so the steam clean can preheat.


  8. Slowly clean the throw rug in the same manner as vacuuming.


  9. Remove the double stick tape from the throw rug.


  10. Allow the rug to dry completely before walking on it.
