How to Steam Clean Carpets With Vinegar

Buying cleaning solutions for your steam cleaner can be expensive. If you rent a steam cleaner along with the solutions, you can spend more than two hundred dollars. You can use vinegar to effectively and inexpensively steam clean your carpets. This article will teach you how to steam clean carpets with vinegar.

How to Steam Clean Carpets With Vinegar




  1. Sprinkle baking soda over stains and high traffic areas. Mix half water and half vinegar in a spray bottle. Soak the carpet with the mixture. Work the mixture in with a scrub brush. Allow the area to dry.


  2. Vacuum the carpet.


  3. Fill the steam cleaner with half hot water and half vinegar. Mix the solution.


  4. Steam clean the carpet according to the directions for the steam cleaner.


  5. Change the water when it becomes dirty. Refill the steam cleaner with the solution used in Step 3. Repeat the cleaning process until the entire carpet is cleaned.


  6. Allow the carpet to dry. Open the windows and turn on fans to assist the drying process. Wait until the carpet is dry before walking on it with shoes.
