How To Treat Earring Infections

Earrings are fashionable, but can easily infect the ears. Earring infections can occur at any time and not just the initial six weeks after the piercing. Take care of your ears and any jewelry worn. If you develop an infection, then there are ways to treat the infection.

Things You’ll Need

Peroxide

Salt

Water

  1. Leave the earring in the ear. An infected ear will develop a scab which can close up the hole with the removal of the earring. Treat the ear while the earring is still in the ear. Treatment involves dabbing peroxide on the back and front of the ear several times throughout the day.

  2. Wear gold or hypoallergenic earrings to prevent infections. Avoid buying earrings made of cheap metals because they can be known to cause ear infections. Pay attention to the metal posts on the earrings as well.

  3. Rotate the earring post in the ear while healing from the infection. There is the possibility of the ear healing around the earring and making it difficult to remove.

  4. Dab salt water on the ears. Try using salt water on the ears for two weeks to get rid of any toxins.

  5. Clean the post of the earrings with peroxide or alcohol before wearing. It would also be a good idea to clean your ears before wearing a new pair of earrings. Many people with earring infections have problems with redness and itchiness. Dipping the earring posts in antibiotic cream can help with alleviating some of the symptoms from the earring infection.
