How to Waterproof a Bathroom Vanity
A bathroom vanity is a common fixture in a bathroom. They can be very expensive or modest self-built vanities. If you are creating the vanity from scratch or remodeling, you should waterproof it. This protects the vanity and keeps it from rotting or attracting mold. The process is quick and simple to accomplish.
Materials Needed:
- Sandpaper
- Caulk
- Paintbrush
- Water resistant finish
Instructions:
1. Prepare the cabinet. Use sandpaper to sand the surface of the vanity. This removes paint, polish and other items from the surface.
2. Apply caulk around the perimeter of all fixtures include the sink and faucets. The caulk keeps water from seeping into the edges and causing damage.
3. Use a paintbrush to apply a water resistant finish on the surface of the vanity. Allow the area to dry for 30 minutes. The water resistant finish can be purchased at your local home improvement or hardware store.
4. Apply a second coat of the water resistant finish to the surface of the vanity and allow it to dry.
