How to Whiten Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are used to cover teeth so they will look good and stay strong. They are artificial teeth that are installed by a dentist. The dentist cements them over the teeth so they are comfortable and will not fall out. The crowns can become stained and will need proper cleaning to preserve their appearance.

How to Whiten Dental Crowns

1. The dental crowns must be whitened through a specialized procedure at a dental office. Whitening strips or other whitening products should not be used because they can eventually cause damage to the crowns. The dentist will use a specialized polish on the dental crowns.

2. Make sure you brush two or more times each day. This will help maintain the appearance of the dental crowns and reduce stains.

3. Make sure you floss after every meal. This will remove food particles that cause plaque. The plague is what builds up and cause stains on the crowns. Flossing should be done between the teeth and around the gums.

4. Reduce the amount of coffee, tea and dark sweets, which can stay on the teeth and cause stains. If you do eat and drink those items, make sure you brush and floss afterwards.

5. Have a dentist check the dental crowns twice a year. They can last up to 15 years but they should be checked if you notice wear and color change.
