Steps to Install a Pet Gate

If you do not want to use a leash or crate, then installing a pet gate is the best way to go. It can keep your pet safe so he does not wander off or get into things. The gate gives the dog more freedom without being confined. You can install a pet gate in a short amount of time.

Installing A Pet Gate

  1. Measure the space where the pet gate will be installed. You will need 3 wooden garden trellises with one hinge per arm.

  2. Saw off the trellis leg that will go into the ground and make sure it is even.

  3. Sand the area where the legs were sawed with sandpaper.

  4. Apply primer to the surface of the trellis and let it dry for 24 hours.

  5. Apply paint to the trellis and let it dry overnight. Apply a second coat of paint.

  6. Assemble the gate by rolling a screen over the trellis surface. Cut the screen for the first trellis and use the screen as a template for the other trellises.

  7. Place the screen over the open part of the trellis and use a staple gun to attach it.

  8. Lay tow trellis panels next to each other and put the hinges on. Use a hinge on each arm of the panels and repeat the step with each of the hinges.

  9. Use fabric seam binding for the panels to hide the staples. Apply hot glue and place the fabric binding there.

  10. Repeat step 9 for all of the panels until the gate is complete using all hinges.

  11. Pick up the gate and install into the space your measure in step 1.
