Steps to Light a Pilot Light
Learning how to safely light a pilot light is something that every responsible homeowner should learn how to do. Lighting a pilot light is fairly easy to do, and one should not have to use the services of a professional unless the smell of gas is detected.
Lighting a pilot light can be easily done by following the steps below.
The first step would be to locate the burner access panel (refer to the owner's manual if available) and remove it.
The temperature control dial should be lowered to the lowest setting.
The knob that controls the gas should be turned to the "off" position.
One should wait approximately 5 minutes for any built up gas to disperse. Make sure that there is no smell of gas before proceeding. A professional should be called if one can still smell gas after 10 minutes.
Light a long match and press down on the rest button. The pilot light should stay lit once ignited.
