Becoming a Foley Artist

Foley artist also named after Jack Foley in 1927 has a very important and crucial role in the film making and recording industry. A Foley Artist is responsible for producing the sound effects that make films more realistic, like creeking floors and piercing screams.

Becoming a Foley Artist will not be easy and will take drive, dedication and determination.

1.To become successful you will need to practice and record sound effects by using recording software and tape recorders.

2. Relocate to a state where the film industry is hot and the demand is great for a Foley Artist, somewhere like Los Angeles or New York.

3. Make sure you study and know the act role and what is required an Foley Artist.

4. Start networking and get to know and surround yourself with people in the industry and maybe get an apprentice. Someone who you can study and learn from to gain hands on experience.

4. Start thinking about attending school to get certified in Audio Sound. Take your time in selecting the right school. Make sure it is accredited, have a good track record and great internship opportunities.

5. Work and study hard, maybe even take on small jobs to keep building your experience.

6. Getting certified and having experience will be key to finding a great job in this industry.

7. Remember your role as a Foley Artist is highly crucial and is what makes a great film or a great sounding recording.
