You will market your business based on what you can offer your customers.  This will depend on your knowledge, or the knowledge of others you will be working with. Try to narrow your focus to a few specific niches. This way you can market yourself and a specialist in a certain area and differentiate yourself from other IT consulting businesses.

If the company should fail or enter into a lawsuit, being filed as a company can prevent anyone from going after your personal assets. 3.      Set up a website for your business. Having a website will help you market your services and prove that you are adept in computers. In general, people who are looking for technology services will search on the Internet.

4.      Advertise your business to get customers. Utilize the Internet to market your services. Make blog posts, join social networks and add a link to your website on your signatures. You can also advertise by putting an ad in the newspaper and posting notices on local
bulletin boards.

5.      Try to get long-term contracts. You may consider offering a lower rate to customers that hire your company on a long-term contractual basis. Short-term jobs and small projects are good, but you are trying to get your business established for an extended period of time. Securing long-term contracts can ensure that you have customers for a long time.
