Planning a 40th birthday party requires the host to do some investigating to find out the things the person having the birthday likes to do. A person who is looking forward to the birthday may want to have a big celebration. If the person is not very sociable or dreads turning 40, a quiet celebration is a better idea.
- Make a master list of the activities or things the person likes to do. Prioritize the list and try to arrive at a cost for each idea. Combine two or more of the ideas together if possible. The birthday party will be more expensive to have, but it will make the event more memorable.

- Look online for a birthday party planning website. Scan the website to find some birthday activities you think the person will enjoy. Compare the ideas to the ones you have on your master list and decide which type of party is the best to have.
