DIY Shoe Storage

Creative Shoe Storage Ideas

In most cases, women have more shoes than men.  Men only need a few pairs of shoes for their daily activities.  Women, on the other hand, need two pairs of shoes to match every outfit.  With this many shoes, storage and organization are very important.  Shoes don’t have to stay on the closet floor; there are many other creative places to store these matching accessories.

  • Put shoes in the shoebox.  If you do not have a shoebox for every shoe, you can buy cheap plastic containers similar to a shoebox.  Label the boxes with a picture of the shoes or the outfit that the shoes match.

  • Purchase a hanging shoe rack.  These can be hung on the closet door or on the installed on the hanging clothes bar.  Each pocket of these hanging racks will hold one pair of shoes.  They are usually made from clear plastic, making the identification process easy.

  • Buy a shoe roulette wheel.  It looks like a gigantic exercise wheel for a gerbil.  You can place your shoes in the divided sections and spin the wheel until the shoes you need appear.  These wheels are a bit pricey, but may be just the storage you need.

  • Have a shoe rack installed in your closet.  You can purchase shoe racks that can be placed on the floor, but they usually don’t last or work as well as a customized shoe rack.

  • Purchase a clear plastic container and store shoes that you do not wear everyday underneath your bed.  This is a good place to keep extra shoes out of the way and keep them from getting misplaced or dirty.  You can even purchase storage that will raise your bed.  A higher bed may be more romantic, especially if it is a place to hide your other love: shoes.
