How to Capture More Storage Space

How to Calculate Storage Space

The need for storage space is something that everyone has at some point in their life. The amount of storage space you have available to you is a good number to know. It can be calculated fairly easily with just a few measurements.

Items needed:

  • Manual or electronic measuring tape

  • Pen

  • Paper

  • Calculator

Instructions:

  1. Determine the area you have in your home to dedicate to storage. This can be a room, a closet or a section of a room. It is better to make this decision one you have moved all your belongings into your home. You should also have your furniture and other items organized before deciding which area is your storage location. If your home has a basement or attic, these are common spaces dedicated to this cause.

  2. Measure the space. Figure out the length in feet by measuring from one side to the other. Write this number down. Measure the width the same way and write down the number of feet. The height measurement should be obtained as well. Make sure you write them all down so that you do not forget. Your results are only as exact as the measurements you take in this step.

  3. Multiply the length times the width times the height measurements if your area is a square or rectangular shape. If it is more of a triangle shape, divide this number by two to achieve the desired result.
