How to Manage File Type Associations in Firefox
When you are browsing the Internet, you are often going to need to download files. These files may be many different file types. If you use Firefox, you do not have to worry about this at all. Firefox gives you the option to configure your browser to handle file types extensions in the way that you prefer.
- Determine the file type of a file that you are using by clicking on the "Tools" link in the top of your screen located in the main menu bar if you are using windows. If you are using a Mac, you will need to click on "Firefox" tab that is located in the main menu at the top of the screen.
- Wait for the box to open, and then click on the box that says "Content."
- Read through the information that is located at the bottom of the box to find out what file type you are working with.
- Click on the box that is labeled "Manage" at the bottom of the screen.
- Wait for a window to open that is going to be labeled "Download Actions."
- Choose the file type that you would like to change, and then click on "Change Action."
- Choose from the four different options that will appear in the form of a drop down menu. Choose the one that applies to your specifications.
- Close the box that is open on your screen once you have made all of the desired changes that you would like to make by closing out the window if you are using a Mac computer, or by clicking on the "OK" button if you are using a computer that is Windows based.
- Repeat the process for each file type association you would like to change within Mozilla Firefox.
