How to Understand Your British Telecom Phone Bill

How to Switch from British Telecom Broadband

British Telecom, commonly known as BT, is a telephone, broadband and television provider based in Britain. If you have been using BT Broadband and wish to change companies, keep in mind you will be required to pay the balance of the contract, if you are not at the end of you minimum 12 month contract period. However, if you do wish to switch from BT Broadband at any point, it is a simple procedure.

  1. Examine your BT Broadband contract to determine when your current contract will end. Bearing in mind, you will be required to pay for one full year of service, no matter when you cancel your BT contract. However, if end date of your contract is close, it is possible to make arrangements for the contract to end on that date without a penalty.

  2. Research your options for other broadband providers to find out what services they offer, packages, speeds and prices.

  3. Prevent your broadband service from being interrupted as you switch from BT Broadband services to another provider by arranging for the installation of your new broadband service to coincide with the end of your BT service.

  4. Contact the Customer Service department of new provider you have chosen so you can place a service order and get an installation or service initialization date.

  5. Call BT's billing department from a land line (0800 111 4567), once you have an installation date from the new service provider. You will need to inform BT that you want to end your service. If you wish to break the contract, the billing department will inform you of how much you will be required to pay and arrange for payment.
