How to Prepare for a DUI Criminal Defense

Receiving a DUI is not a good thing to have on a record. However, everyone has a fair hearing in court. Prepare for your DUI criminal defense in the appropriate manner to avoid further repercussions. As a citizen, you have certain rights but as a DUI violator you must face certain consequences.

  • Get a lawyer. In all criminal defense cases, you need a lawyer. If you have had prior DUI convictions, it will be necessary to have a serious plan in place. The most DUI's you have racked up, the more serious your penalty from the judge. A lawyer is needed so you have someone to plead your side of the case. A lawyer is not there to make excuses for your actions, but to be a guide for your DUI case.

  • Show up to meetings and court hearings. If you are serious about changing and eliminating further charged then show up for court hearings and arrangements. Show up on time for meetings with your lawyer as well. To have a well planned out case means showing up for all meetings and arrangements.

  • Understand your rights. Getting pulled over for a DUI violation is serious business. You do not get a lesser charge by refusing a breath test. Officers have the right to arrest you if they think you are under the influence. You have the right to a lawyer and a fair trial. You also have the right to plead guilty or not guilty. You have the right to a court date. However, the judge has the final say in posting bail and other matters considering the severity of the DUI violation.
