About Interior Space Planners
Interior space planners are fairly new in the workplace. They basically combine the job duties of an architect and interior decorator, resulting in an occupation that can design a home or add a room. This allows the consumer a wider range of options when deciding to do something different with their home.
Education
Interior space planners have an education in design or architecture. Many times they will also have education or experience in related fields such as construction, interior decorating, or home improvement. For the best jobs, you will want to have at least a bachelors degree in one of these fields.
Job Duties
Job duties are wide and varied with this job. You will be expected to work well with customers and contractors. You will need to be forward-thinking, and able to come up with stylish home solutions quickly. You will also need to understand building codes and the renovation process. Sometimes you will need to suggest tearing out a room or adding on to a home. Some jobs will be on a smaller basis, such as redecorating a living room. You will need a strong sense of style, colors, and patterns. Interior space planners are not an architect or an interior decorator, but rather a combination of both.
Experience
Experience in interior decorating/design, construction, home building, or even with contractors will go far in this job. Personal experience, such as renovating your own home will help a lot too. The more hands-on experience you've had, the easier it will be for you to know what will or won't work in a potential customer's home.
Salary
The sky is the limit for an interior space planner's salary. Bigger cities will have more firms and more customers. You can expect to make a salary and commission. Entry level usually has a yearly income of around $40,000. These are generally large jobs, and as you gain knowledge and experience your income will increase. A knowledgeable and friendly personality, with the ability to close the deal will increase your income greatly.
