How to Repair Car Fenders
When your car gets slammed into at the shopping center your fender may get hit and need repair. There are different materials that automakers use when they make the body of a car. Additionally, there are also different designs, like the unibody, that can make the repair difficult. It’s important to know what a fender repair entails before you begin your project.
Things you will need:
- 1 new fender
- Dent removal tool
- Hammer
- Paint
- Know what kind of material you are working with – not all fenders are made with metal and the ones made with metal differ from each other.
- Remove the fender from the car.
- Replace the broken fender if it’s fiberglass.
- Pop a simple dent out with a dent removal tool.
- Beat the fender with a hammer on dolly to remove most dents or creases. Although this method might take longer than others, but you will not have to spend lots of money on tools you will only have to use once.
- Repaint the fender to cover the damage done from the repairs.
- Replace the metal fender back onto the vehicle.
Unibodies are harder to work on because you cannot take the fender off the vehicle. Instead, you will have to work around other car parts or take the whole body off the chassis. Most people do not have tools to properly stretch and bend metal that requires extensive repairs. However, simple repair jobs, like small dents, can be finished with a hammer and dolly.Take your time when you repair car fenders; people make mistakes when they rush.
