How to Tow Ford Cars
Towing a Ford car can be a delicate job. You have to be careful not to damage the undercarriage of the car. The most important thing to know is to make sure all four tires are off the ground when towing and that the car is secured to the tow truck.
- Decide if it is safe to tow your Ford vehicle by checking the trailer and making sure it can hold the weight of the ford vehicle. Most Ford vehicles weigh around 2,000 pounds. Check the Ford owner’s manual for the exact weight of your Ford vehicle. The trailer's manual will also tell you how much weight it can hold.
- Attach the coupler to the trailer hitch and place the coupler onto the hitch. Then, close the latch. Place a hitch pin onto the latch.
- Place the trailer chains crisscross onto the ford vehicle's hitch. You need to crisscross the chains, so it will catch onto the trailers tongue. If the chain comes loose, the car will not slide off of the trailer.
- Place the Ford vehicle's trailer plug onto the trailer's electrical connections. There should be plenty of slack so the Ford vehicle can turn correctly, but not too much or it will drag on the ground.
- Check the lights on the trailer by cycling the combinations until you have the correct lighting sequences. The law requires that you must have working lights on the Ford vehicle before it can be towed.
- Check one more time to see if everything is secure on the Ford vehicle and the trailer. You are now ready to tow the ford vehicle onto the trailer.
