How to Remove a Sliding Patio Door
Sliding patio doors are a common feature of many houses. They come in a variety of styles and add a touch of elegance to a home. In the event you need to remove one, it is easy to do with a few tools and a little elbow grease.
Items Needed
- Phillips-Head Screwdriver
- Utility Knife
- Hammer
- Pry Bar
- Reciprocating Saw
1. Remove any decorative trim located at the top of the patio door's frame.
2. Remove the interior casing surrounding the inner side of the patio door with the Phillips-Head screwdriver.
3. Remove the sliding patio door by raising the door into the upper track and slowly sliding the door forward until you can lift it out of the track.
4. Remove the stationary panel by using the utility knife to cut the seam connecting the stationary panel to the door's jamb.
5. Continue removing the stationary panel by using the Phillips-Head screwdriver to remove the screws and brackets of the stationary panel.
6. Use the pry bar to remove the stationary panel base out of the lower door track.
7. Remove the exterior trim surrounding the door by using the pry bar to remove the nails holding on the trim.
8. Remove the door jamb by using the reciprocating saw to cut the nails, caulk or paint that is holding the door jamb to the frame.
9. Pry up the door frame by using the pry bar and hammer.
10. Lift the door frame out.
