Tips for Automatic Transmission Repair

Very little maintenance is involved when driving a car with an automatic transmission versus driving one that has a manual transmission.  The transmission does a lot of work and is easy to overlook the work that it does.  Regular maintenance is required when driving a car that has automatic transmission in order to maintain a good running car.  Develop a maintenance schedule in order to keep the condition of your car in good standing.

Overdrive:

The overdrive is the newest feature of newer cars and should be turned on in order to help your car ride smoother and with better gas mileage.  The overdrive is turned on by pressing a button on the shifter or on the steering column in your car.

Fluid Checks:

Make sure the transmission fluids are checked on a regular basis.  Start your car and begin to drive for 15 minutes or so to make sure that the engine is running properly.  Take the transmission stick out and check to make sure fluids are accurate.  Using the dipstick, make sure fluids are clear with a red tint, wipe it off and put it back in slot and then pull it out again to see the fluid level making sure the transmission fluids are not too low.

Spotting Leaks:

Make sure there are no oil leaks when your vehicle is parked.  If there is a transmission fluid leak, there will be noticeable fluids under the vehicle.  Noticing a leak early will save your engine and transmission.

Fluid Changes:

Change transmission fluids if it starts to look dirty and brown.  Changing fluids regularly will help keep you vehicle running smoothly with minimal problems.
