Types of Amphibians and Reptiles

There are many different types of amphibians and reptiles. Their habitats are as varied as their varieties. Numerous amphibians and reptiles can be found across the US and even worldwide. Identifying types of amphibians and reptiles can help you better understand the world of the cold blooded animal.

Snakes

Snakes are a reptile. There are many different varieties of snakes. They can range from the harmless garden snake to the deadly king cobra. Snakes can live in the desert, marshes or even in lakes and oceans. Some people may even keep snakes as pets. They are fascinating creatures that capture prey without the use of hands or feet.

Skinks

Skinks are one of the most common types of lizards and reptiles. They have long bodies resembling a true lizard, but usually no neck and very short limbs. Skinks move more like snakes than a traditional lizard. Skinks feed on bugs and vegetation and many reproduce by hatching eggs.

Salamanders

Salamanders may closely resemble the skink, but they are actually amphibians. The salamander has a long body with short legs. Frogs are one of the most common types of amphibians. Frogs come in all shapes and sizes and can even be poisonous. Frogs also exist in all types of environments. Most frogs are able to absorb oxygen from water through their skin.
