How to Cut Wire Shelving

How to Clean Plastic Wire Shelving

Plastic wire shelving has become increasingly popular in homes because of the relatively low cost compared to wood. Like all shelves, plastic wire shelves get dirty over time and need to be cleaned. This is not difficult if you know the proper steps.

Directions:

  1. Clear the shelves of any clothing or other objects sitting on them.

  2. Use an all-purpose cleaner on the shelves, saturating with the all-purpose cleaner. These cleaners are ideal for plastic shelves because they cut through dirt, stains and cannot harm the shelves.

  3. Scrub the wires clean using a sponge. Depending on the type of wire shelves, you can use a sponge with a mild scouring surface. Most of the time, it is best to use an old rag to clean the shelves. It works much better on ground-in dirt than paper towels. Use paper towels if the dirt is not deeply set.

  4. Clean the brackets that attach the shelves to the wall, and the wall's area where it meets the shelves and brackets. Make sure to wipe away any accumulated dirt, dust and debris.

  5. Use paper towels to dry the plastic shelves after they have been cleaned. Make sure all of the dirt is gone at this point. Once the shelves have been dried, you can determine if there is still any remaining dirt. If there is, go over the shelves with the cleaner once again.

  6. Once the shelves have been cleaned, return the items back to the shelves.
