How to Design a Modern Kitchen

A new kitchen can give a home a completely different feel. It can also dramatically increase the value of the home. Currently, modern themed kitchens are becoming increasingly popular. Fortunately, creating a modern looking kitchen is a straightforward project and much of it can be done from your computer.

Items Needed:

  • Computer

  • Design Program

  1. Download a home design program for your computer. These programs allow you to create three dimensional images of your proposed kitchen. This allows the designer to have a better understanding of the dimensions of the room and how each element will fit.

  2. Consider your budget. Home improvement projects can quickly become over budget. If you have limited funds for you project, then going over budget can be devastating. Determine the total that you are able to spend for your kitchen, and then add 10 to 20 percent to this total. This will compensate for any cost overruns that are encountered.

  3. Understand the key element of a modern themed kitchen. Usually, modern kitchens are characterized by open space and stainless steel appliances. Dark colors are also preferred to light colors. When these elements are combined, they create a clean feeling environment. Incorporate these design elements into your final project outline.

  4. Input your plans into the design program. This will give you a full rendering of how your kitchen will look when completed. A major benefit of these programs is that you do not have to be an artist to produce a solid design. Concentrate on the space available and budget constraints when creating your design.

  5. Print out your design. Once your deign is complete, print it out and compare it with your current kitchen. This will allow you to see any areas you may have overlooked while designing. If you find something that has been overlooked, then you should modify your plans before beginning the project.
