How to Fix Squeaking Brakes
The shrill squeaking noise that your brakes sometimes make can be quite annoying butluckily this problem is easy to fix. Certain steps can be taken to stop your brakes from squeaking and allow you to relax in your vehicle once again.
Things You’ll Need:
- Access to a mechanic
- New brake pads
- Anti squeak adhesive
- Car lube
- Check the cast iron plates that are located in between the brake pads on your vehicle. When the iron plates become warm they can shake and squeal. You can check the plates yourself or take your vehicle to a mechanic for inspection.
- Look into different types of brake pads. Some materials are quieter than others and you may benefit from installing pads of a different material on your vehicle.
- Install shims between your brake pads and the vehicles calipers. The shims can stop noise that exists even after you change the vehicles brake pads and cast iron plates. Shims stop grinding and friction between the brake pads and calipers.
- Apply anti-squeak adhesive to the brake pads and the calipers on your vehicle. The adhesive can be purchased at a local auto body store and may help prevent squeaking when all other measures have been exercised.
- Apply lubricant whenever you install new brakes on your vehicle. By applying the lubricant to the brakes and pads during installation you can prevent squeaking of the brakes from occurring and avoid having to take any further measures to stop your brakes from squeaking.
