How to Choose an Auto Body Shop

For anyone who has been scammed by an auto shop, knows just how difficult it can be to find one you can depend on. Entrusting one of your most expensive possessions to someone requires honesty and loyalty. Dishonest mechanics can end up costing you more money than the initial problem. It is important to know the basic components that make up a good auto shop that you can come to know and trust.

1. Visit various online forums and review sites to compare ratings in an area near you. Friends and family are also a good way to find out about shops that may not be listed online (especially if they are a small business). Just because a business is small does not make it bad place to check out. Don’t always be fooled by the latest equipment compared to good quality.

2. Downsize your list based on facts and any additional information that best suits you (such as location or convenience). Be sure to see which shops provide a warranty for their work and how long.

3. Drop by your top picks to see how the shop operates. Ask employees questions about how long they have worked in the automotive business. Ask other customers about their experience with the shop thus far.

4. Obtain estimates of costs, if you need some repair work done to your vehicle. Be sure to ask the mechanic to explain the repair costs to you in laymen’s terms so that you can understand exactly what needs to be done and why. Choose the auto shop that you would like to use based on all aspects, not just on the price of the repair.
