Basement Waterproofing Techniques
Anyone who has gone through basement flooding problem, surely considered basement waterproofing techniques as they deal with their soaked furniture and other possessions. Unfortunately, many possessions could have been saved if the owner had effective basement waterproofing techniques in place.
Cracks
Use either an epoxy basement patch or a hydraulic cement to fix any cracks you notice in the basement. To fix the crack with hydraulic cement, mix the hydraulic mixture to a thin consistency and add to the cracks. After you apply the hydraulic cement, it will expand when it sets in and seals the crack. Use epoxy cement patch on walls to fix the crack.
Drainage
Install an 8 by 10 inch perforated pipe as this help divert water from your homes foundation and stops the water from impacting your basement. In order for this to be effective, you have to add the perforated pipe along the footers of your basement wall. To prevent water buildup when you add the perforated pipe, it is necessary to place gravel on the pipe. Place rain gutters on the overhang and add gutter extension pipe on the gutter ends of the house to propel the water from the basement walls. Consider burying the pipe into a flowerbed to make it more aesthetically pleasing.
Seal
Get a sealing coat for the basement outside wall and coat the area using a roll-on tar and then use a one-inch rigid insulation to cover the coating this will stick to the roll-on tar. Using this method will stop water infiltration as well moisture build up on the basement. When you apply the sealing coat, cover not only the wall but also cover the joint and the footer in the wall.
Sump Pump
Areas that is prone to water benefits from adding a sump pump. Adding a sump pump makes financial sense because it cost less than having to remove or replace your possessions or even your basement. Having a sump pump does not stop the water, but it keeps your basement dry.
