How to Correct Sizing for a Basement Window

Types of Basement Waterproofing

The best way to waterproof your basement is during construction of the basement and doing tit correctly the first time. During the construction phase various waterproofing materials can be used to waterproof the basement such as incorporating heavy grade plastic materials in the basement walls.

 Interior Sealant

Interior sealant is a temporary measure use to waterproof basements, and often
use in places prone to snow and frost to prevent these weather elements from
causing the water to rise. Most interior sealants come in chemical spray form and
applied to the floor as well as the walls. They are helpful in preventing
humidity and condensation in the basement and prevent crack in masonry
material, wood rot and concrete damage. For problems involving ground water,
you will need to find another alternative because the interior sealant will not
provide any security.

Exterior Sealant

Exterior sealant does not let water seep into the basement walls, and it
helps to prevent mold and mildew in the basement. This type of procedure is
recognized by the International Building Code (IBC) as the best method to keep
water damaged at bay in the basement. The exterior sealant used on basement has
a polymer base material instead of asphalt-based, the method used in the past. One reason
why the polymer base is so popular is because it last for the life of the
property while other forms of exterior sealant erode in 20 years and is ideal
for areas subject to heavy rain.

Drainage

Water drainage is not a waterproofing method, but it can help steer water
from the basement and thus, considered by some as a waterproofing method. Water
drainage methods steer water away from the foundation and force the water into
either a drain or through a pump system. Pump system requires an isolated
electric system in the event of a power shortage or extended periods of storms.
