How to Get an ASE Certification Online
The Automotive Service Excellence certification is awarded to mechanics who have proven that they have the top-notch knowledge, skills and auto repair abilities. Mechanics must take a standardized exam given by the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence, and the test can be taken online or in person.
- Register
through the ASE website for the next available test in your area.
The tests are only offered twice annually, five weeks during the
summer and five weeks during the winter. Be sure to check the
registration schedule as soon as you are eligible to take the ASE
test. You can complete your registration online using the official
ASE form or download an ASE form and send it the mail or fax it to
the ASE offices. - Pay
the fees associated with test. The registration fee in 2011 is $35,
and the tests can range from $30 to $60 per test. These fees can be
paid using a credit card if registered online, or by check or money
order if you send in a paper application. - Get
yourself to the assigned test center on the day of the test. You
should arrive at least 15 minutes to check in for your test. You
will need a photo ID, two number two pencils and the test ticket you
were sent at the time of your registration. This test ticket lists
your testing center name, time and date. Arriving early will also
you to use the restroom and get a drink of water before the test
starts. You can choose paper or computerized tests. Computerized tests are scored faster (often giving you correct/incorrect status every question), and use an online server for the questions and answers portions. - Take
your ASE certification tests at the testing center. You will
receive your test scores and certification status the same day.
Check in with the ASE test officials when you finish your test. They
will score your tests and you will have verification of any
certificates you have passed. An official certificate will be sent
to you at a later time.
