DIY Maytag Dryer Repair

Like most household appliances, dryers are prone to malfunctions.  Damage to the dryer may be due to dirt in the exhaust vent, worn out belts or electrical failure.  Dryers require regular maintenance and cleaning to keep them in good working condition.

Tools

  • Users manual

  • Rugs

  • Fuse

  • Thermostat

  • New Maytag dryer belt

Method

  1. Read the user manual to find out all the parts and how they operate.

  2. Inspect the fuse box to see if the fuse is working.  If it is blown, it will look dark or foggy and the wire will be severed.  Replace it with a new one and be sure the replacement fuse matches the amps of the dryer by matching the inscription on the metal end of the fuses, not by choosing the same sized fuse.

  3. Inspect the door of the dryer to make sure that it closes firm and secure.

  4. Push the start button while holding down the door switch.  If the motor is running but the drum is not moving, the belt may be broken and need replacement.  Turn off the dryer before removing the old belt, and replace it with a new one.

  5. Check the dryer settings to make sure they are working properly.  The signal button may be in the locked position causing the controls to lock.

  6. Inspect the area around the blower wheel to make sure the rubber is not worn out and that no objects have fallen through the hole in the middle of the blower.  Ensure all the screws holding the drum are tight.

  7. Clean the lint trap to make sure that fluff is not clogging the system every time the to avoid accumulation.
