How to Set Up a Technology Education Lab

A technology education lab is created to provide students with the necessary equipment to learn technological concepts. These technological concepts consist of computer literacy, computer programming and the use of technology in conducting scientific research. As you may know schools receive a specific amount of funding to cover the cost of these technology education labs.

  1. Determine the amount of workstations needed for the technology education lab. This amount is based on the amount of students who will utilize these workstations at any given time frame.

  2. Determine the model of workstations you are capable of purchasing based on the classroom budget. Basically determine the amount of money you could spend on the purchase of these workstations.

  3. Determine the required specifications for these workstations and which platform is required for the technological courses in which these workstations are used. For instance determine which programs are used in these classes to determine the correct platform is appropriate. Determine the amount of memory required to store information for each student who will use these workstations.

  4. Compare the prices of each workstation with the required specifications to ensure that your classroom budget will accommodate these workstations.

  5. Order your workstations.

  6. Determine the amount of desks that are needed for these technology education labs. This amount is based on the number of students you determined in step one. Ensure that the delivery service that delivers the desks also sets them up.

  7. Determine which cables are needed for these workstations and purchase them.

  8. Determine which peripherals are necessary for this technology education lab and place your order.

  9. Set your workstations and peripherals up on the desks. Ensure that you also have enough seating for your students.
