How to Work With Plastic Plumbing Fittings
Plastic plumbing fittings can be used on copper pipes in order to seal the units together and prevent leaks from occurring to the plumbing system. You can learn how to work with these plastic plumbing fittings by following a few steps.
- Determine the type of plumbing pipes you’ll be using for your plumbing system. The way the pipes are cut depends if they are made from plastic or metal material.
- Select the correct plastic plumbing fitting based on the length of the pipe you’ll be using within your plumbing system. If you are cutting the pipes yourself, you can determine the length after cutting the pipes to ensure proper measurements.
- Test the plumbing sitting on a small piece of the pipe prior to purchasing the fittings to ensure they are the correct fit for your plumbing system pipes.
- Secure the pipe and fitting together using the dry-fit method. This will ensure that they are properly bonded and prevent any water from escaping from the fitting if small gaps are present when they are secured together.
- Use PVC glue around the end of the pluming pipe and the plastic pipe fitting. This glue will ensure that the fitting stays tightly in place and does not because loose if the dry-fit method begins to break away.
- Use a curved plumbing fitting around the edges of the pipes if you need to create an angle for the plumbing fittings to be installed correctly within the plumbing system.
