How to Clean Personal CD and DVD Players

Buying a lens cleaning disk for a personal CD and DVD player is the best way to keep the device running properly. The disk has tiny brushes that clean the lens while the disk spins in the player. The disk can be used once a week or after the device starts skipping when it plays a CD or DVD.

Items Needed:

  • Lens cleaning disk

  • Rubbing alcohol

  • Cloth

  1. Dust your personal CD and DVD player at least once a month to keep it clean. Go to an electronics or computer store to buy a lens cleaning disk to use for maintaining the device. Ask a sales clerk to help you pick out a cleaning disk or buy the brand that is available at the store.

  2. Power up your player and insert the cleaning disk. After the display screen reads the disk, you can press the “Play” button on the device. Let the disk run until it automatically stops.

  3. Eject the disk manually if it continues to play after 30 seconds. Mark your calendar as a reminder to clean the disk each week, especially if you use the player often. Do not use the cleaning disk on any other device since it is specifically designed for personal CD and DVD players.

  4. Inspect your CDs and DVDs if you have problems with skipping. After you use the cleaning disk, check your player to see if the media plays properly. If you have problems with skipping, you may have smudges or fingerprints on the CD or DVD that you need to clean.

  5. Wipe off your media disk and insert it into the player. If the player skips, eject the disk and look at the back of it to check for scratches. Use rubbing alcohol and a cloth to clean the disk and let it dry before you insert it into the player. If the skipping problem does not go away you may have a damaged disk.
