How to Hide Home Theater Cables

Hiding home theater cables can improve the appearance of a home theater. Many homeowners buy wireless home theater components to avoid having unsightly wires running across the room. Hiding the wires under carpeting or running them through the walls are some options to consider instead of buying a wireless system.

  • Wrap up your home theater receiver cables and fasten them together with a twist tie. One thing you can do to keep track of the cables is to label each of them according to the device they attach to. For example, find the cable that hooks your DVD player to the receiver and tape a small label on it that says “DVD.”

  • Hide the cables under your wall-to-wall carpeting. If the cables are too thick this may not be the best option. You can run the theater’s speaker wires under carpeting since they are thin.

  • Buy extra long cables and run them along the baseboard. Remove the baseboard and use a staple gun to fasten the cables to the lower portion of the wall. Replace the baseboard after you run the cables to your theater receiver.

  • Run the cables through the walls to hide them. If you have a projector system you can run the cables from the projector through your ceiling and down the walls to the receiver. Make sure that you do not tangle any of the theater system wires with other electrical wiring in your ceiling or walls.

  • Buy wireless speakers for your home theater. You will still have quality sound but there will be no wires to hide. You can also mount your speakers on the wall and run the wires to the receiver so they are out of sight. Consider buying wireless components if you want to upgrade your existing system so you will not have any wires to worry about.
