How to Hook Up a VCR

If you have purchased a new VCR, you will find that it is very easy to hook it up to your television. As long as you have the cables that you need to connect the VCR to the television, it will only take you a few minutes. You can soon start enjoying the VCR movies that you have to watch.

Items Needed

  • 2 coaxial cables

  • RCA cables

  • VCR

  • TV

  1. Look on the back of your television to see if it has an RF connector for a coaxial cable. If your television does not have an RF connector, then it will have an AV connector. You can look at the user’s guide that came with your TV to see what type of connectors you have.

  2. Plug the VCR in to an electrical outlet. Connect the coaxial cable to t he back of the VCR to the “Out” port. It may also say “UHF/VHF” on the port. Connect the other end of the coaxial cable to the back of the TV to the “Antenna IN” port.

  3. Find a switch on the back of the VCR that shows either a number three or four. Select one of these numbers. This is the channel you will turn your TV to when you want to watch VCR tapes. It does not matter which one you select.

  4. Turn your television to the channel 3 or 4 that you just selected in the previous step. You should see a solid blue screen. Insert a VCR tape into your VCR and it should start playing on your screen. If it is not working, check that all connections are correct and that you are turned to the right channel on your television.
