How to Set Up Stereo Speakers

Setting up stereo speakers can be a simple job of just attaching some wires and putting the speakers next to the audio device. To achieve optimal sound you will want to spend a little more time and be sure the speakers are placed in just the right places. A little of experimenting will be required to find that perfect spot.

  1. Place the stereo speakers near the audio device to which you are going to attach the speakers.

  2. Connect the speaker wires to the back of the speakers and the other end to the back of the audio device. Be sure the positive wires are connected to the positive clips and the negative wires to the negative clips.

  3. Place the speakers around the room an equal amount of inches from each other. If you only have two speakers, position them an equal distance from the audio device. If there are more speakers than just two, place them around the room. Try to keep them equally spaced around the entire room. This will make you feel like you are at a movie theater or a concert when the speakers are playing.

  4. Turn on the audio device and play something. Sit down in the room where you would normally sit when using the audio equipment. Listen to the sound to determine if the sound is equal or off balance. One area of the room should not seem louder than another does. Proper balance will give the most enjoyable listening experience.

  5. Adjust the positions of the speakers as needed. Use speaker stands or hanging hardware for speakers to position the speakers around the room.
