How to Turn a Blackberry Into a Home Theater Remote
A convenient feature of most Blackberry phones is the ability to control your home theater system with them. If your home theater system is Bluetooth compatible, it can be connected and configured to the Blackberry and controlled with it instead of a standard remote.
- Contact your cell phone service provider and confirm that you have a data plan and Internet access. The application you need to install to use your Blackberry as a remote requires Internet access.
- Visit the app store on your Blackberry, and purchase the AVshadow application and hub.
- Open the application on your Blackberry. Navigate to the application icon and click on the "Ok" button to open it.
- Open the Internet browser on your Blackberry, and visit the Unify4Life website.
- Download and install the software from the website onto your Blackberry.
- Open the configurations menu and follow the on-screen prompts and directions to configure you Blackberry with your home theater system. You may need to turn on the theater system before it can be configured.
- Turn on the bluetooth feature on your Blackberry, and connect it to the home theater system. Use the applications to control the system using your Blackberry as a remote. You can control the channel, volume, stop, play, pause, fast forward and rewind buttons from your Blackberry.
- Aim the Blackberry at the theater system and press the appropriate button on the screen. You must be close to the theater because the Bluetooth will not reach if it is too far away.
