How to Find the Top Real Estate Agent
Most people have no trouble going to the grocery store and selecting a $3 loaf of bread. However, when the decision comes to purchase a home that can cost $300,000, the average person has a bit more trouble. As most people buy or sell a home only a few times during their lifetime, they are hardly skilled home traders. Because of this, real estate agents are often used in helping home buyers and sellers.
- Ask your friends, family members or co-workers who have recently bought or sold a house. Word of mouth can oftentimes be the best way to find someone who is good at what they do. Even if they can’t recommend someone, they may certainly be able to tell you who to stay away from.
- Check with the Better Business Bureau to see if the agent is part of an accredited business or has had any complaints filed against them. The BBB also will often assign a business with a letter grade so you can see if they are receiving an A+ or flunking.
- Search online for real estate agents to find reviews. Sometimes performing a Google search of the name of the agent or agency will provide you with some evaluations. You can also try a website such as Angie’s list that has verified reports on the best real estate agents. If the agency doesn’t score well, you may want to stay away from all of the agents associated with the company.
- Meet with the agents you are interested in working with to determine if they are a good fit for finding you a new home or selling your old one. Some real estate agents specialize in specific real estate areas, so keep this in mind if you are selling or looking for a residence such as an equestrian home or a lake front property.
