How to Get Business Grants for Minority Women

Business grants for minority women may be researched by visiting the U.S. Small Business Administration website. After answering a few questions in the search feature, you will see a list of grants available to minorities and women. Obtaining a business grant involves following the application instructions and making a strong case for eligibility.

  1. Identify the scope of your business. Business grants for minority women are awarded in child care, tourism, technology, environmental management and other industries.

  2. Visit the Small Business Administration (SBA) website. Under the Loans and Grants section, you will be able to research grants for small businesses.

  3. Narrow your search. To display available grants, the search feature asks questions related to your business goals, location, industry and reasons for seeking funding. Select only the options that apply to retrieve the information for the most suitable grants.

  4. Review the grant sources. Some grants come from governmental departments, such as the Department of Veteran Affairs or the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Others are offered by nonprofit organizations and foundations.

  5. Read the descriptions of each grant. Grants are awarded to recipients who can achieve a specific objective. Providing support services to the homeless, assisting victims of domestic abuse or creating an innovative product are just a few examples.

  6. Review the grant requirements. Requirements may include a maximum number of employees or minority or women-owned status. Determine whether you meet the requirements.

  7. Submit a proposal that describes your eligibility and business goals. Explain the history of your business or what objectives you expect to complete by establishing a new business. Be sure to submit the proposal by the specified deadline.
