Absolutely! But you have to be willing to help others as well. If you go to networking meetings with the sole purpose of getting new business you won't do as well as someone not only wanting new business, but who is also willing to help refer to other merchants, and to give some free and helpful information at times.

Absolutely! You know the saying.. it's not what you know, but who you know. Likewise, it's not what you do, but who you are that often makes the deal. At network meetings you are selling yourself first, not your product or service. In fact, I avoid telling what I do as much as possible and try to bond on other interests. I also volunteer, but never mention my company while doing so. Gain respect as an individual and the business will follow.

Networking is a GREAT way to expand your business contacts and also your business. Once you find the groups you want to attend - be consistent about attendance. People will want to get to know you and what you offer as long as you come to the group with the intention of getting to know them and what they offer. If you ask the questions - "What do you do and How can I help you" (and then follow through with help as much as you can) you will get known by the group as the Go To person and will stay top of mind whenever your services or products are needed. Networking can be LOTS of fun if you go with the right attitude and intentions.

Getting out there will definitely open the door to more opportunities for your business, then hiding behind the curtain at home. To gain the maximum benefit from the effort that you put into networking, it is helpful to have a strategy and know what you are seeking from your effort. Have a clear way to describe what you do, and make sure you have business cards with you. Then ask others about what they do.

You need to layer your methods. To get out there and have your face seen is always good. You want to be the source, not an option. When they think of something in your field, they should immediately think of you. By you being in the eye of the public, you become the face that they recognize. Give out your cards and get cards form others, then get to know them so they know you more personally. Then they will start to refer you as you can do the same for them. It will generate more activity, questions and phone calls. Yes I do. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Exposure, exposure. You never know who you will meet OR better yet - a brief introduction to one person can potentially open up and expand an entirely new network to you. Best of luck - do not stop networking. Drb

networking is definitely a very positive and productive experience. You have a chance to reconnect and be introduced to new people who would be interested in your services. There's nothing like getting to know someone in person. So put on your best smile and NETWORK.

Yes, networking with other merchants provides an opportunity to exchange business cards, discuss strategies to work together on joint advertising if the businesses compliment each other. There is also the option of referring customers to each others businesses. The possibilities of expanding a business through networking with other businesses is unlimited.

Today it is very important to have a balance between face-to-face networking and social media. It is all about building relationships. Attend a few different groups and pick a few that you are most comfortable in. Attend regularly, and be on time. Others will judge how you treat your clients by how you treat the networking events. Build a strong network, and in time once your core group knows you, likes you, and trusts you, referrals will be sent your way. Be patient. It takes time to build relationships.
